Carmel-Valley
is a pastoral river valley nestled in the towering Santa Lucia mountain range, just off Scenic Highway 1 as you leave quaint Carmel-by-the-Sea on the Monterey Peninsula. It is one of the finest wine growing regions in California, and offers endless opportunities for entertainment, recreation, fine dining and wine tasting. Almost indescribable beauty awaits you as you drive the main artery along Carmel Valley Road, which begins at Highway 1 and runs eastward. The highway winds along the Carmel River past quaint country inns, three championship golf courses, several world-class resorts, rustic barns, farmland and oak-studded hills laced with wildflowers. Carmel Valley is home to Garland Park, where 4,000 acres are open for day use activities such as mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding along the willow-lined banks of the Carmel River. In quiet Carmel Valley Village you will find antique shops, art galleries, one-of-a-kind shops, wine tasting and fine restaurants. Known as the "sunbelt" of the region, it is generally sunny and warm in Carmel Valley when fog blankets the other nearby towns of Carmel-by-the-Sea, Pacific Grove and Monterey. Carmel Valley is also conveniently located just minutes from such attractions as the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, the renowned 17-Mile Drive and the awe-inspiring Big Sur Coastline.

Mild weather prevails on the Monterey Bay Peninsula year round. It is never too hot or never too cold. Sunny days with cool mornings and cool evenings are normal for the area, except in summer when a blanket of seasonal fog often hugs the coastline blocking out the sun for days. For this reason, summer may seem a few degrees cooler than fall and winter, although in actuality, it is not. On many days, the fog burns off by noontime. The rainy season generally runs November through March with an average annual rainfall of 18.5 inches. The average annual fog days are 183. If you are visiting and the fog rolls in, take a short drive inland to Carmel Valley where it is sunnier and usually a few degrees warmer than right along the Bay and coastline. Cool temperatures make humidity levels of no real consequence in the Monterey Bay area.
