Timber-Cove
is a small community located on the rugged, secluded northern California coastline. It's located approximately two to three hours north of San Francisco, depending on whether you travel along the curving, steep (but very scenic) Highway 1, or inland along Highway 101. This stretch of coast, also called the "Redwood Coast," is known for its quiet beauty and wilderness. More than 50 miles of spectacular coastline is dotted with small fishing villages, coves and sandy beaches that provide access for surfing, scuba diving or sea kayaking. Many come just for the awesome scenery and to relax and "get away from it all." Stolling the shoreline or exploring tidepools, meditating on the beach or reading a good book, listening to the sound of the crashing waves are other ways of enjoying this remote part of the state. Many come to witness the migration of the California Gray Whale; others come for the great birdwatching. Biking, horseback riding, hiking, golf and rock climbing are also available near Timber Cove. Various lodging facilities, retail stores and restaurants can be found in the town of Timber Cove, and other nearby attractions include the historic Russian Fort Ross, the village of Jenner-by-the Sea, Salt Point State Park, Kruze Rhododendron Park and the Avenue of the Giants Redwood Forest.

The Northern California coast region, including the Russian River area, has a climate of mild days and cool nights - even in summertime. Right along the coast, low clouds and fog that usually burns off by early afternoon, is common. The further inland you go away from the ocean, the sunnier it is. There is little or no rain May through September. The rainy season begins in late October or November, with January and February being the wettest months. Flooding is a problem in winter when rains are heavy within a short period of time, mostly due to the many creeks and rivers in the area. Strong winds are usually present right along the coastline, but lessen as you travel inland. Fall is generally the sunniest season along the northern California coast.
