Shell-Beach
is located just north of Pismo Beach on the Central Coast of California. This pretty little town is one of the most scenic spots in the area, with rugged cliffs, sandy beaches and crevice-filled rocks jutting out of the ocean. Shell Beach is very popular with kayakers and if you drive down Ocean Boulevard, there is a parking lot with stairs that provide access to the beach below. A picturesque gazebo in Margo Dodd Park provides breathtaking views of the ocean and is a great place for a picnic. Fishing is also available from the stretch of cliffs located in the village. Nearby attractions include the Pismo Beach outlet shops, the piers, restaurants and boutiques of Avila Beach and Pismo Beach and the Danish village of Solvang. Hearst Castle is approximately 60 miles north of Shell Beach. Other activities near Shell Beach include surfing, shelling, exploring tidepools and watching the sea life, antique shopping and wine tasting. The city of San Luis Obispo is a short drive north of Shell Beach and offers a farmers market every Thursday, a childrens museum, numerous art galleries and shops and fine dining.

The Northern California coast region, including the Russian River area, has a climate of mild days and cool nights - even in summertime. Right along the coast, low clouds and fog that usually burns off by early afternoon, is common. The further inland you go away from the ocean, the sunnier it is. There is little or no rain May through September. The rainy season begins in late October or November, with January and February being the wettest months. Flooding is a problem in winter when rains are heavy within a short period of time, mostly due to the many creeks and rivers in the area. Strong winds are usually present right along the coastline, but lessen as you travel inland. Fall is generally the sunniest season along the northern California coast.
