Rio Nido
is a tiny community located in northern California near the Russian River and just outside the town of Guerneville. This is a peaceful place set among the pines and redwoods, where the most noise is likely to come from the birds singing in the trees. A cluster of homes sits in a canyon along a creek that curves and winds its way to the Russian River – this is Rio Nido. Nearby Guerneville has convenient shopping and restaurants, an “old general store,” and a Pacific Coast Railway Depot Museum. Rio Nido offers lots of outdoor recreational fun in a gorgeous, secluded setting. The scenic Russian River area is great for swimming, boating, fishing, kayaking and canoeing, hiking and biking. Armstrong Woods State Park, which is a 750-acre old growth redwoods forest, offers horseback riding, self-guided tours and camping. Several golf courses are located in the nearby area, and Rio Nido is just a short drive to the wineries of Sonoma County, which are open for tours and wine tasting. Other nearby attractions include the city of Healdsburg, known as the number one art destination north of San Francisco and Sausalito, the coastal villages of Jenner-by-the Sea and Bodega Bay, historical Fort Ross and several world class spas and hot springs.

The Northern California coast region, including the Russian River area, has a climate of mild days and cool nights %u2013 even in summertime. Right along the coast, low clouds and fog that usually burns off by early afternoon, is common. The further inland you go away from the ocean, the sunnier it is. There is little or no rain May through September. The rainy season begins in late October or November, with January and February being the wettest months. Flooding is a problem in winter when rains are heavy within a short period of time, mostly due to the many creeks and rivers in the area. Strong winds are usually present right along the coastline, but lessen as you travel inland. Fall is generally the sunniest season along the northern California coast.
