Forestville
is a small community 70 miles north of San Francisco, along Highway 116. This historic little town sits in a mountainous canyon region along the Russian River, surrounded by redwoods and near the Sonoma County wine country. Thus, Forestville has earned the title "where the wine country meets the redwoods." Forestville is right in the center of a pristine but rugged recreational area, well known to outdoor enthusiasts. Many come to fish the Russian River or canoe down its blue waters surrounded by wilderness. Others come to camp, hike, bike, go birdwatching or whale watching, or to explore the backcountry. Visit the nearby rolling hills covered with vineyards and stop for a wine tasting tour. Armstrong Woods National Park will leave you awestruck as you gaze upward at the magnificent giant redwoods that form a canopy above you. All of this awaits you in this peaceful area where time seems to stand still. The town of Forestville is much the same as it was when the last train left town back in 1935. But, that's part of its charm, along with small family owned businesses and its friendly population of artists, writers and craftspeople. A visit to Forestville will leave you feeling refreshed and uplifted, and looking forward to returning again and again!

The Northern California coast region, including the Russian River area, has a climate of mild days and cool nights - even in summertime. Right along the coast, low clouds and fog that usually burns off by early afternoon, is common. The further inland you go away from the ocean, the sunnier it is. There is little or no rain May through September. The rainy season begins in late October or November, with January and February being the wettest months. Flooding is a problem in winter when rains are heavy within a short period of time, mostly due to the many creeks and rivers in the area. Strong winds are usually present right along the coastline, but lessen as you travel inland. Fall is generally the sunniest season along the northern California coast.
