Healdsburg
is located along Highway 101, 75 miles north of San Francisco. The town of Healdsburg has a rich heritage that is evident in its historic homes and storefronts. The downtown was built around a unique central Spanish-style plaza that is still in existence today. Healdsburg is also home to numerous art galleries, and is, in fact, known as the number one art destination between Sausalito and Mendocino. The town of Healdsburg is part of the beautiful Sonoma Valley that is most well known for its award-winning wines. Rolling hills, lush greenery and impressive vineyards make up the surrounding countryside. Some of the other things to do in Healdsburg include visiting antique shops, unique retail shops, touring a winery, or visiting one of the many historical sites in the area. For outdoors recreation there is hiking, biking or horseback riding in the more than 13,000 acres of state and Regional Park land nearby. Healdsburg and the Sonoma Valley also have some of the best lodging in the world, including intimate bed and breakfasts and world-class resorts. Snow free and fog free, Healdsburg has a near perfect Mediterranean type climate, making it a peaceful, lovely place to visit any time of year.

The northern end of the Napa Valley wine country is just an hour and a half north of San Francisco. Autumn is considered by many to be the best time to visit the wine country. This is when vines are in full color and the harvest is taking place, and the weather is delightful. Warm, sunny dry afternoons and cool evenings are the norm for autumn. The rainy season runs November through March, with January and February having the most rain. Temperatures are cool in winter at night, but rarely go below the freezing mark. The Napa Valley region is hotter than the San Francisco area in the summertime, although not unbearable because there is little or no humidity. In spring when temperatures are mild, and new vines are budding is a popular time for bicycling through the area.
