Lakeside
is called “one of San Diego County’s original western towns.” It’s located 25 miles northeast of San Diego on Route 67, and has a rural, country feel to the town. The community was first settled in 1886 and several of the old buildings still remain, including the old Lindo Hotel, now called the Lakeside Hotel. The town of Lakeside enjoys a mild climate with less than ten inches of rainfall per year, making it ideal for outdoor recreation. Eight parks and four lakes are within the city limits, including Lindo Lake, which is located in the center of town and is the only natural lake in San Diego County. Some of the activities in and around Lakeside include horseback riding, fishing, boating, hiking and biking – plus it’s only a short drive to the mountains and deserts of southern California. Special events in town are the Annual Western Days Parade, the Lakeside Rodeo, the Maine Avenue Street Dance, the Annual Quilt and Art Show and the Spirit of Christmas. Lakeside makes a quiet place from which to base a southern California vacation. Within minutes you can be at the San Diego Zoo, Sea World, the San Diego Wild Animal Park, Solano Beach or the Boardwalk at Mission Beach, then come home to relax in the peaceful surroundings of Lakeside.

Extreme Southern California, in the San Diego area, enjoys a beautiful, mild climate year round. January is generally the coldest and wettest month of the year, and August is usually the warmest month. In actuality, however, there is very little variation throughout the year in temperature in the coastal region, except when easterly winds off the desert pushes the temperature up a few degrees. The dry season runs May through September with very little measurable precipitation during this time. October is a transitional month, and is usually dry but can have variable weather. Fog and low clouds along the coast are common, but usually burn off by noon. A marked feature of the climate in this region is the wide variation within a short distance due to the topography of the area. Visitors can enjoy a coastal climate, mountains and desert all within a day's drive of each other.
