Chula Vista
is a lovely city of approximately 200,000 residents, located south of San Diego near the Mexican border. With its’ near perfect weather, numerous parks and open spaces and beautiful harbor, Chula Vista offers visitors a wide variety of year-round activities and attractions. Go sailing on San Diego Bay or fishing in freshwater, mountain lakes. The city has two marinas, four golf courses, a new water adventure park and miles of hiking, biking and horseback riding trails. Chula Vista is also just minutes to the ocean, as well as downtown San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico, with all the cultural, recreational and shopping opportunities they provide. Points of interest in the city include the ARCO Olympic Training Center, the Chula Vista Nature Center, Onstage Playhouse, the San Diego Junior Theater and the Chula Vista Heritage Museum. Shopping and dining are abundant in the city, from large malls to the shops of historic Third Avenue. Other nearby attractions include the famous San Diego Zoo, Sea World, San Diego Wild Animal Park, Legoland, the Birch Aquarium and Old Town San Diego. The Baja Peninsula is generally one of the hottest and driest places on the North American continent. However, a small coastal area of northwestern Mexico surrounding Tijuana has more of a Mediterranean climate with considerable coastal fog and a winter rainy season similar to southern California. Here the rainy season runs November through March, with very little to no precipitation the rest of the year. Winter storms, generated as far away as the Gulf of Alaska provide areas along the coast west of the mountains with up to 12 inches of rain per year %u2013 which is enough to support sizable forest at the higher elevations. Evenings can be chilly any time of the year in comparison to warm daytime temperatures.
