Poway
is a city of approximately 50,000, conveniently located in the center of San Diego County. It is about an hours drive to the mountains or the desert, and only about 15 minutes to the ocean. Called “The City in the Country,” this family-oriented community is home to Lake Poway, a jewel of a lake nestled in the hills amid groves of Eucalyptus trees. The lake is a major attraction and offers excellent fishing, boating, sailing, camping, hiking, picnicking, volleyball and softball. The Lake Poway recreation area includes a 900-square foot pavilion with picnic tables, barbecues, restrooms and a kitchen. This pavilion is ideal for large gatherings. For smaller picnics, there are gazebos and a park complete with tables and grills. Other attractions in the city of Poway include historic Old Poway Park, the Poway Center for the Performing Arts, a community center and new state-of-the-art library and Sportsplex USA. Named a Tree City USA for six years in a row, Poway is also home to the Blue Sky Ecological Nature Reserve. Although its often thought of a an old-West cowboy style town, Poways roots actually lie in agriculture. Today, the community retains its traditional small town charm while it continues to grow and prosper.

Extreme Southern California, in the San Diego area, enjoys a beautiful, mild climate year round. January is generally the coldest and wettest month of the year, and August is usually the warmest month. In actuality, however, there is very little variation throughout the year in temperature in the coastal region, except when easterly winds off the desert pushes the temperature up a few degrees. The dry season runs May through September with very little measurable precipitation during this time. October is a transitional month, and is usually dry but can have variable weather. Fog and low clouds along the coast are common, but usually burn off by noon. A marked feature of the climate in this region is the wide variation within a short distance due to the topography of the area. Visitors can enjoy a coastal climate, mountains and desert all within a day's drive of each other.
