Ventura
is a lovely city, rich in culture and history with a sunny, Mediterranean type climate. It offers visitors less crowded beaches, a beautiful harbor, and several offshore islands. Located along scenic Highway 101, between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, Ventura is one of the oldest cities in California. It began in 1782 with the founding of the Mission San Buenaventura and has over 80 historical landmarks in its downtown area. For outdoors fun, you can swim, play on the beach, and go surfing or boogie boarding or fish off the pier. The Ventura Promenade is the perfect spot to hike, bike or rollerblade. Ventura is home to Channel Islands National Park, which sits 14 miles offshore. This nature preserve is home to more than 2,000 species of plants and animals, of which, 145 are found no place else on Earth! Other things to see in Ventura include Anacapa Island, Seaside Park (which is also home to the Ventura County Fair) and Skate Street Ventura (a 29,000 square foot skate park.) And, Ventura Harbor Village contains a 36-horse carousel, specialty shops, art galleries, restaurants, and also kayak rentals, sailing lessons and day cruises. Most restaurants are casual and offer a kids’ menu, and shopping and accommodations are very affordable. This makes Ventura a good place for families to enjoy the laid back atmosphere, beautiful scenery and recreation opportunities along the Pacific Coast.

Rich, fertile farmlands surround the southern California coast between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. A sunny Mediterranean climate is greatly influenced by the Pacific Ocean, where summers are dry and warm and winters are wet and mild. This area has more than 315 days of sunshine per year with very low humidity levels. Low clouds and fog often move inland from the ocean in the evening and persist until the wee hours of the morning. By noon, the fog burns off and the sunshine returns. Cool ocean breezes keeps temperatures from getting too hot. The rainy season generally runs November through March and the area receives approximately 18 inches of rainfall per year.
