Santa Ynez
is a small western-style village located north of Los Angeles in the Santa Barbara wine country. The town’s buildings depict the old west era, and the streets are filled with shops and restaurants and beautiful gardens, and a country inn has been beautifully restored to its original 19th century elegance. Places to see in town include the Santa Ynez Historical Museum and the Parks-Janeway Carriage House, which features dozens of old time horse-drawn carriages, and the historical Mission Santa Inez. This is a great region for sightseeing – with everything from wine tasting tours to antiques shopping. A must see is the nearby Dutch town of Solvang. Founded in 1911 by Danish educators, the town is filled with windmills, old world architecture with steep gabled roofs, and shops that feature items from around the world. The restaurants in town feature food from Denmark and bakeries loaded with Danish pastries and cookies. Recreational activities in the Santa Ynez area include golf, hiking, bicycling, glider rides, and gaming at the nearby Indian casino. Beach activities are just a short drive away in Santa Barbara. Whether as a day trip while visiting the Los Angeles area, or all on its own, Santa Ynez’s quaint village charm makes a great vacation destination.

The climate of the Los Alamos area is very similar to that of the central coast cities such as Santa Barbara. Although located slightly inland, the weather is influenced greatly by the Pacific Ocean. Temperatures are pleasant year round, although it is slightly warmer in summer and slightly cooler in winter than right along the coastline. The Los Alamos region gets over 300 days of sunshine per year and has very low humidity levels. The rainy season runs November through March, with only about 18 inches of rain per year. Low clouds from the ocean can drift into the area in summertime, but mostly skies are clear and sunny. Cooling ocean breezes help moderate the temperatures.
