Malibu
is located in Los Angeles County on scenic Highway 1 along the Pacific Ocean. A road sign as you enter town says "Malibu, 27 Miles of Scenic Beauty," and nothing could be truer! Malibu is gorgeous, with 21 miles of white sand beach, sparkling blue ocean, spectacular homes perched on mountains, and rustic oak and sycamore studded canyons. Malibu is home to many celebrities and offers only the best in dining and hotels, spas and resorts, and upscale shopping. The city of Malibu is famous for its beaches, which offer sunning, and swimming, surfing, diving, hiking and horseback riding opportunities. Zuma Beach has volleyball courts and swings for children set up on the beach. Malibu Lagoon State Beach is a good place to watch birds and other wildlife, and fish off the pier. Many people come to Malibu to shop the unique boutiques or to simply walk the beaches and take in the splendid surroundings. The beach at Paradise Cove Pier might look familiar, as it was used in the movies, "Gidget," and "Beach Blanket Bingo." Many parts of Malibu are still used for filming today, so don't be surprised if you spot a film crew working on the beach. The beautiful Santa Monica Mountains with its canyons and mesas, overlooking the mighty blue Pacific creates a stunning visual effect. It's this unique environment that makes Malibu so special, and keeps visitors coming back time and time again!

Southern California enjoys a mild year round climate that is classified as Mediterranean. There are two distinct seasonal changes, categorized by the amount of rainfall received - a dry summer and wet winter with modest variation in temperature. In the dry season, a Pacific high-pressure system dominates the weather pattern creating warm and very dry air and a thick marine layer that typically advances inland during the night and burns off to hazy sunshine by midday. Surface pollutants trapped under the marine layer, or fog, create L.A.'s infamous "smog." In winter, the high system is no longer dominant and storms fed by subtropical moisture bring lots of rain into southern California during the months of November through March. Afternoon sea breezes of 10 to 15 mph are common. Strong offshore winds, known as "Santa Anas," though not uncommon, rarely cause damage.
