Simi Valley
is a city located in the extreme southeast corner of Ventura County, bordering the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. As of the 2004 census, the city of Simi Valley had a population of 119,987. It is approximately 40 miles from downtown Los Angeles. Situated against a backdrop of picturesque rolling hills, Simi Valley is close to the amenities of the big city yet far enough away to offer the peace and quiet of country living. Simi Valley has, in fact, consistently been rated by the FBI as “one of the safest cities in the United States.” The city boasts over a dozen beautiful parks, miles of hiking and biking trails, swimming pools, tennis courts, 3 golf courses and one of the largest equestrian trail systems in the United States. Simi Valley is close to some of Southern California’s finest beaches and in the wintertime, it is an easy day trip to skiing in the San Bernardino Mountains. The city’s Cultural Arts Center offers professional and local stage productions and other nearby attractions include Dodger Stadium, Universal Studios, the Hollywood Bowl, Six Flags Magic Mountain and Disneyland. Driving to these and other southern California hot spots is easy from Simi Valley. Just minutes to the east are the San Diego (405) and Golden State (5) Freeways and to the west, the Moorpark Freeway (23) connects with U.S. 101. The Ronald Reagan/Simi Valley-San Fernando Valley (118) Freeway creates the arterial spine of Simi Valley.

Southern California enjoys a mild year round climate that is classified as Mediterranean. There are two distinct seasonal changes, categorized by the amount of rainfall received - a dry summer and wet winter with modest variation in temperature. In the dry season, a Pacific high-pressure system dominates the weather pattern creating warm and very dry air and a thick marine layer that typically advances inland during the night and burns off to hazy sunshine by midday. Surface pollutants trapped under the marine layer, or fog, create L.A.'s infamous "smog." In winter, the high system is no longer dominant and storms fed by subtropical moisture bring lots of rain into southern California during the months of November through March. Afternoon sea breezes of 10 to 15 mph are common. Strong offshore winds, known as "Santa Anas," though not uncommon, rarely cause damage.
