Yountville is a charming town located in the heart of the Napa Valley Wine Country. This historic region, which many say is reminiscent of the south of France, is one of the most picturesque regions of the state. Yountville is about 8 miles north of Napa, and was founded in 1855 as a farming community by George Yount, who was the first white settler in the Napa Valley. He is credited with planting the first grapevines in the Napa Valley. The village of Yountville is a "walking" town with lots of interesting little shops, great restaurants (including several celebrated French restaurants,) and quaint lodging facilities. From Yountville, you can take a drive into the surrounding area and visit the wineries; sail away in a hot air balloon ride over the beautiful countryside or take a tour on the Napa Valley Wine Train. The wine country of northern California is known for its culture, history, art and heritage, as well as its excellent wines. Enjoy golf or tennis, biking down a peaceful country lane or hiking in one of the nearby state parks. Go antiquing in the other unique towns of the area including St. Helena, Calistoga, Angwin and Glen Ellen. Other attractions in the Yountville area include the Old Faithful Geyser, Lake Berryessa, the Petrified Forest and the Bale Grist Mill State Park.

Yountville Weather & Climate

A Mediterranean climate  best describes the Napa Valley of California. Warm dry summers and wet cool winters, perfect for growing the award winning grapes used in the wine making, is what you can expect when visiting the area. Rain is rare during the growing season, with most occurring between October and May. January and February are usually the wettest months. The fog which characterizes the region keeps the vines cool and maintains the natural acidity in the fruit. A history of volcanic eruptions and earth movements means that soils are diverse in the area. Summers are always sunny and warm, but never uncomfortable due to the influence of the nearby Pacific Ocean and low humidity levels. Autumn is a spectacular time of the year in the Valley when vines are in full color and it is harvest time.
