Napa
is set among the rolling hills and vineyards of the beautiful Napa Valley. A city with small town charm, Napa has attractions and entertainment you would expect to see only in much larger cities. It's located approximately 1.5 hours from both San Francisco and Sacramento, and while summer and autumn are the busiest times in the Valley, it's a treat for the eyes anytime of the year. The wineries are the big attraction, with nearly 38,000 acres planted in grapes. This valley paradise is surrounded by the Mayacamas and Vaca Mountain ranges, and nearly 4.5 million visitors come to this region each year. Here you can ride the Napa Valley Wine Train, which is a three-hour, scenic, gourmet-dining excursion through the Valley. Napa also has wonderful resorts and spas, unparalleled shopping, farmers markets, art galleries, and wonderful restaurants with world class chefs. Hot air balloon flights over the vineyards are offered that end with a gourmet meal and wine. The city parks, mountains and Napa River provide ample opportunities for hiking, fishing, mountain biking, horseback riding, tennis and golf. There are literally dozens of bed and breakfasts, country inns, hotels and other lodging within the Napa Valley. You absolutely will find no other place better for recreation, relaxation, and romance than the gorgeous Napa Valley region of northern California.

A Mediterranean climate best describes the Napa Valley of California. Warm dry summers and wet cool winters, perfect for growing the award winning grapes used in the wine making, is what you can expect when visiting the area. Rain is rare during the growing season, with most occurring between October and May. January and February are usually the wettest months. The fog which characterizes the region keeps the vines cool and maintains the natural acidity in the fruit. A history of volcanic eruptions and earth movements means that soils are diverse in the area. Summers are always sunny and warm, but never uncomfortable due to the influence of the nearby Pacific Ocean and low humidity levels. Autumn is a spectacular time of the year in the Valley when vines are in full color and it is harvest time.
