Victorville is located in southern California, and bills itself as “the other southern California,” the one that many people are not familiar with – in the High Desert region of the Mojave Desert, east of the San Bernardino Mountains. It’s a unique, friendly town with all the conveniences for visitors such as good hotels, restaurants, shopping malls and other services. Before the coming of the railroad, Victorville (then called “Victor,”) was a rest stop for migrating groups, explorers and Spanish missionaries. The coming of the railroad, and later, the George Air Force Base, brought growth to the area. Today, its convenient location near all the major southern California cities and its select location in the beautiful Victor Valley make it a great get-a-way from the crowded cities. Activities in the area include boating and fishing, hiking, golf, horseback riding, and more extraordinary – camel rides in the desert. The Mojave Narrows Regional Park is nearby and there are many trails for off-road motorcycling. Other interesting attractions in and around Victorville include the California Route 66 Museum, the Mojave River Valley Museum, Rockview Nature Park, and the Scandia Family Fun Center. Victorville is approximately an hour and a half from Los Angeles, just one hour to Big Bear, two hours from Palm Springs and two hours from San Diego.

The desert region of southern California, east of Los Angeles and just southwest of Barstow is a unique area for weather with much greater extremes of temperature and season than the coastal areas. Summer highs can be in excess of 100 degrees and it is mostly dry all over, with occasional heavy showers over the high desert and mountain areas. The air quality in this region is excellent which gives way to bright sunny days and star filled skies at nights. Intensely hot during the summer, it becomes more bearable during the winter months when temperatures are comfortable and nights are chilly. What rain there is in this area usually occurs most frequently and heavily November through March, but the average rainfall for the area is less than 4 inches per year.
