Wrightwood
is located in the San Bernardino National Forest at the 6,000-foot elevation level, just 15 miles off Interstate 5 in southern California. It is “a town without a traffic light” that is at the end of one of the “easiest mountain drives in southern California.” It’s certainly one of the most beautiful mountain drives in the state, a village tucked away in the rugged and beautiful San Gabriel Mountains. Wrightwood is an eclectic, fascinating little town that has unique gift shops, antique stores, good restaurants and great service – friendly people with friendly smiles. The town has an interesting history – it was originally settled by the Serrano Indians, then became a cattle ranch, which evolved into an apple orchard, and finally into the secluded, quiet mountain getaway town that it is today. Hikers love the area with points such as the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail, the Angeles National Forest and Mt. Baden Powell all within reach. The climate is four seasons, and activities abound such as hiking, biking, fishing, boating, camping and horseback riding. Wrightwood is home to two ski centers that offer downhill skiing and sledding, with several other ski resorts found throughout the Angeles/San Bernardino National Forest. Wrightwood is home to several festivals, including Spring Garden Festival, Mountaineer Days and a Fall Festival.

Southern California ,east of Los Angeles is a unique area for weather. It ranges from the High Desert Region of the Antelope Valley to the mountains of the San Bernardino National Forest. The Greater Antelope Valley is described as having a semi-arid, four-season climate with low humidity. The region ranges in elevation from 2,500 to 3,975 feet above sea level, and it is relatively dry in all seasons. Light winter snow can occur anywhere in the Antelope Valley, although it is not common. The higher mountain regions have more variable weather, depending on elevation. Generally, it is dry and sunny in the summertime and wildfire is always a threat. The rainy season begins in October, with January through March being the wettest months. Weather can change rapidly in the mountains, so visitors are advised to come prepared for a variety of conditions.
