Crestline
is located just 90 minutes from downtown Los Angeles, and for years has been known as a family-oriented mountain vacation destination. This small mountain village is nestled around Lake Gregory, which is part of the San Bernardino Regional Park System. The 86 acre lake is a picturesque jewel surrounded by pine, oak and cedar forests. You'll find white sandy beaches for swimming, excellent fishing for trout, catfish and bass, and also a 300' waterslide, two sand volleyball courts, rowboats, paddleboats and sailboat rentals. The village of Crestline is considered the gateway to the camping and recreation of the San Bernardino National Forest. Just a sample of some of the recreational opportunities available in the Forest include hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, stream fishing, hang gliding and camping. Crestline offers visitors a wide range of lodging, dining and shopping opportunities, with a growing collection of antique shops, gift shops and retail stores. The weather in this area is unique for southern California, with four distinct seasons, and the air quality is excellent. Access to Crestline via the San Bernardino Valley is on state highway 18, which is a nationally designated scenic byway known as "Rim of the World Highway." On clear days, this four-lane highway provides magnificent views, ranging all the way to the Pacific Ocean.

The mountains east of Los Angeles in the San Bernardino National Forest have weather conditions that vary widely depending on the elevation. The range of elevation goes from 1500 feet at the valley floor to over 11,000 feet at Mt. San Gorgonio. Generally, it is very dry and sunny in the summertime and wildfire is always a threat. In July, the forest usually enters the "very high" fire restriction level when no open campfires are allowed and smoking is only within enclosed vehicles. The rainy season begins in October, with January through March being the wettest months. Snow falls in the higher elevations. Weather can change rapidly in the mountains, so visitors are advised to come prepared for a variety of conditions.
