Tahoe-Vista is on the north end of Lake Tahoe near the Nevada State line and the town of Kings Beach. Known for its alpine beauty and for being the "quiet" side of the lake, Tahoe Vista lies in the midst of one of the country's premier vacation destinations. In the summertime, Lake Tahoe and the Truckee River provide endless opportunities for boating and fishing, golf, tennis, hiking, mountain biking, water skiing, rock climbing, parasailing and camping. One of the best sandy beaches at Lake Tahoe is found in nearby Kings Beach. The North Tahoe Marina is located in Tahoe Vista and features boat launches by ramp or lifts, fuel pumps, boat rentals, jet ski, kayaks, canoes, pedal boats and water toys for rent. In the wintertime, the Sierra Nevada Mountains are snow covered and offer some of the best skiing in the state. Snowmobiling, downhill and cross-country skiing, ice skating and snowboarding are all available, all with the gorgeous Sierra Nevada Mountain Range as a backdrop. Tahoe Vista is within close proximity to the North Star Ski Resort, and just a short drive to other ski areas like Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and Heavenly. Other attractions in Tahoe Vista include the Pogan Gallery, which specializes in original paintings of Lake Tahoe, and the Sierra by nationally recognized artists. For nightlife and gambling, South Lake Tahoe and Stateline are an easy and picturesque drive around the lake.

The Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, just west of the Nevada state line has an alpine mountain climate. This high mountain region is known as one of the chilliest spots in the country, which comes as a big surprise to many that visit California. Nestled between the Sierra Nevada peaks, the towns of Truckee and Graeagle, and the Donner Lake region, often gets an inversion, whereby cold air is trapped overnight, thus the reason for the extreme cold temperatures in the very early morning hours - even in summertime. As the sun comes up, the temperature begins to rise and daytime highs are usually quite pleasant. Large amounts of snow are received in the higher elevations of the Sierras - up to 40 feet. Rain is possible any month of the year, although most occurs October through April. Mountain weather conditions can change quickly, and rain in the lower elevations can mean snow, sleet or ice in the higher elevations.
