Cedar-Flat
lies on the northwest shore of Lake Tahoe, approximately five minutes from Tahoe City. Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows ski areas are about a 15-minute drive away. Cedar Flat is in a great location to enjoy all that Tahoe has to offer in both summer and winter. Altogether there are more than 15 gorgeous downhill and cross-country ski areas within an hours drive of Cedar Flat, five are within 15 minutes. There are also 10 golf courses within an hours drive, many of which are championship courses. There are many places around the lake to rent boats and jet skis or if you are feeling adventurous - try parasailing. There is excellent fishing in both Lake Tahoe and the Truckee River, and the Truckee River is a prime rafting spot. Nearby Tahoe City is the "hub" of the area, with lots of shopping and dining choices. For exciting nightlife, South Lake Tahoe is a short, scenic drive south around the lake, and offers world-class casinos, restaurants, accommodations, shopping and more fun. Cedar Flat makes a nice home base to enjoy all the fun and excitement, yet is in a quiet, relaxing location tucked amid the scented pines with spectacular views of the lake.

The Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, just west of the Nevada state line has an alpine mountain climate. This high mountain region is known as one of the chilliest spots in the country, which comes as a big surprise to many that visit California. Nestled between the Sierra Nevada peaks, the towns of Truckee and Graeagle, and the Donner Lake region, often gets an inversion, whereby cold air is trapped overnight, thus the reason for the extreme cold temperatures in the very early morning hours - even in summertime. As the sun comes up, the temperature begins to rise and daytime highs are usually quite pleasant. Large amounts of snow are received in the higher elevations of the Sierras - up to 40 feet. Rain is possible any month of the year, although most occurs October through April. Mountain weather conditions can change quickly, and rain in the lower elevations can mean snow, sleet or ice in the higher elevations.
