Agate-Bay
is located on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, between Tahoe City and Kings Beach. Considered one of the prime vacation spots in the state of California, the Lake Tahoe region offers unparalleled outdoor recreational activities amid spectacular scenery, as well as indoor activities such as casinos, fine dining and shopping, and live shows and entertainment featuring well-known celebrities. Agate Bay is just a short drive to the casinos and excitement of South Lake Tahoe, yet its' setting amid the pine forests along the glittering lake gives it the feel of a virtual wilderness where much of the crowds and traffic can be avoided. The Northshore region is generally considered to include the small communities of Cedar Flat, Kings Beach and Agate Bay. The shores of Lake Tahoe touch the boundaries of all of these places, and lakefront cabins and condos dot the area. Some of the finest sand beaches on the lake are located here, and marinas and restaurants are located along the shoreline. In summer, activities include hiking and biking, swimming, fishing, boating, canoeing and kayaking. Winter sports enthusiasts will enjoy being surrounded by world-class ski areas including Squaw Valley, Heavenly, Northstar-at-Tahoe and Alpine Meadows.

The Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, just west of the Nevada state line has an alpine mountain climate. This high mountain region is known as one of the chilliest spots in the country, which comes as a big surprise to many that visit California. Nestled between the Sierra Nevada peaks, the towns of Truckee and Graeagle, and the Donner Lake region, often gets an inversion, whereby cold air is trapped overnight, thus the reason for the extreme cold temperatures in the very early morning hours - even in summertime. As the sun comes up, the temperature begins to rise and daytime highs are usually quite pleasant. Large amounts of snow are received in the higher elevations of the Sierras - up to 40 feet. Rain is possible any month of the year, although most occurs October through April. Mountain weather conditions can change quickly, and rain in the lower elevations can mean snow, sleet or ice in the higher elevations.
