Brockway
is located on the north shore of Lake Tahoe near Kings Beach in the "Old Tahoe" region of the lake. Here, old style vacation homes and cabins merge with modern resorts and condominiums. The recreational activities in the High Sierra Mountains surrounding Lake Tahoe are endless. Brockway is within minutes of two, world class ski resorts, and several others are within a 30-minute drive. A five star resort is situated along the shores of the lake in Brockway, with recreational facilities that include a year-round swimming pool heated directly by natural hot springs. Thirty championship golf courses are located in the area, and other summertime sports include swimming, boating, fishing, water skiing, parasailing, hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. The North Shore has its own small casino area, and South Lake Tahoe is approximately a thirty-minute drive from Brockway, and is the cornerstone of the gaming area with high-rise casinos, live entertainment, theaters, shops and restaurants. For something a little more low key, nearby Kings Beach has lots of shopping, art galleries and lakefront dining. With its breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe, and tons of charm and appeal, Brockway makes a great base for a Tahoe vacation, without the crowds and traffic of South Lake.

The Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, just west of the Nevada state line has an alpine mountain climate. This high mountain region is known as one of the chilliest spots in the country, which comes as a big surprise to many that visit California. Nestled between the Sierra Nevada peaks, the towns of Truckee and Graeagle, and the Donner Lake region, often gets an inversion, whereby cold air is trapped overnight, thus the reason for the extreme cold temperatures in the very early morning hours - even in summertime. As the sun comes up, the temperature begins to rise and daytime highs are usually quite pleasant. Large amounts of snow are received in the higher elevations of the Sierras - up to 40 feet. Rain is possible any month of the year, although most occurs October through April. Mountain weather conditions can change quickly, and rain in the lower elevations can mean snow, sleet or ice in the higher elevations.
