Sacramento
is the state Capital and in recent years has become one of the fastest growing and most popular places to visit in the Golden State. One of the reasons being its superb central location to many other California attractions. Easy day trips take you to Lake Tahoe, San Francisco, the Napa Valley wine country, the historic gold country in the Sierra foothills and the Sacramento Delta. But, Sacramento has lots to offer of its own, as well. There's Old Sacramento; the original town that's been preserved as it was in the days of the Gold Rush. Ride in a horse drawn carriage along cobblestone streets, or walk the wooden sidewalks and visit interesting shops, restaurants, and museums, all along the scenic Sacramento River. Take a riverboat ride or listen to live jazz and visit a comedy club - its all available in Old Sacramento. Other Sacramento attractions include the State Railroad Museum, Sutter's Fort and the Renaissance Revival style Capitol building and rose gardens. The popular annual Dixieland Jazz Jubilee draws thousands to the city each year and outdoor enthusiasts will want to visit Sacramento's 5,000 acre American River Preserve. With over 500,000 trees, Sacramento is spectacular in summer and fall, but with its mild climate, anytime of year is a great time to visit this beautiful and historic northern California city.

The North-Central Valley of California has weather that is hot and dry in the summertime, and wet and cool in the wintertime. Summers consist of low humidity levels, and occasional temperatures that climb above the 95-degree mark. In the Delta Area, where the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers meet, humidity is a little higher. Thunderstorms are possible anytime of the year, but they are usually light and infrequent. Rain is almost non-existent in summertime in the valley. In winter, the Pacific high that keeps storms at bay in summer retreats southward, bringing widespread, moderate precipitation to the area. Also in winter, a shallow layer of ground fog, known as "tule fog," frequently forms at night and can persist for two or three weeks. Flooding in winter results when rain is heavy over a period of one or two days.
