Julian
is located approximately 50 miles northeast of San Diego along State Route 78. This former gold mining town is a rustic mountain community and the entire town is a designated historical district. The Main Street of Julian retains many of its old storefronts, wooden sidewalks and the historic Julian Hotel. National forest land with mountain trails and clear lakes and streams surround Julian. It is also one of the few southern California communities with four distinct seasons, thus making it a romantic get-a-way anytime of the year! Spring is a profusion of color with daffodils, lilacs and the blossoming trees. Summer brings opportunities for hiking, fishing, mountain biking and horseback riding and camping. The cold winter climate is perfect for growing apples, and Julian is well known for their apple pies and apple cider. In autumn, tourists flock to Julian to enjoy the harvest and the brilliant fall colors. Other things to do include taking a horse-drawn carriage ride around town, visiting the California Wolf Center, or touring one of the nearby gold mines or wineries. The mountains and foothills region northeast of San Diego is one of the only places in southern California that enjoys four seasons. At 4000 feet, the elevation, clean air and blue skies add to the overall beauty of the region. Spring is generally mild and wildflowers decorate the backcountry while a profusion of daffodils is evident throughout the small towns of the area. Average summer temperatures fall in the 80s with occasional summer rains July through August. Most of the summer, however, you can expect clear, sunny skies and dry weather. The first cold spell of fall begins a profusion of color as the trees prepare for a winter and the first rains begin in October. Expect lots of rain, gentle snowfalls and cool temperatures November through March.
