Joshua Tree
is a small community that serves Joshua Tree National Park. Located in San Bernardino County in the southeastern part of the state, Joshua Tree is near the cities of Palm Spring and Desert Hot Springs. This is where the Sonoran and the Mojave Deserts meet. Joshua Tree National Park contains many interesting rock formations and a forest of unusual looking trees. The park is open every day year round, and here you will find camping and hiking, rock climbing and mountain biking. Park rangers conduct a variety of hikes, backcountry tours, birding and wildlife viewing and campfires on a regular basis. There are desert caves and caverns to explore, rock hounding and photography opportunities. Some of the most colorful and spectacular sunsets can be seen in Joshua Tree Park and desert, so don’t forget your camera! The town of Joshua Tree has a small village atmosphere and provides excellent shopping, restaurants, lodging and other services to visitors. Accommodations and dining are comfortable and affordable, making Joshua Tree a good place for a family vacation. The desert of the American southwest, including Joshua Tree National Park, is a unique environment, making it an educational and exciting vacation destination for the whole family to enjoy!

The vast desert region of southern California east of Los Angeles has a typical desert climate. This area, which includes Palm Springs, Palm Desert and Rancho Mirage receives only 15-20 days of rainfall per year for a total of 4.77 inches. The days are mostly sunny and warm and nights are cool from fall through late spring. Summers turn hot to very hot, with occasional high clouds, and warm, balmy evenings May through October. The humidity levels are very low, so even when the mercury climbs to 100 degrees, it feels comfortable in the shade. Keep in mind that temperatures are 30-40 degrees lower at the top of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway and in the Alpine community of Idyllwild.
