began as an Indian village centered around a hand-built well, and has grown into one of California’s wealthiest cities! Located in Riverside County, just 17 miles from Palm Springs, Indian Wells is known for its world class golf courses, tennis and luxury resorts and spas. This upscale community is home to the Indian Wells Country Club, which over the years has included such members as Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin and Arnold Palmer. The city has 36 championship golf holes, a state of the art tennis arena, and four major resorts, and is host to several internationally televised sporting events each year. Indian Wells also boosts first class shopping and dining at its restaurants and boutiques, and has theaters, museums and nightlife to enjoy. “The Gardens” is a 200,000 square foot natural environment with an open-air garden theme that offers high end shopping options. Visitors may want to visit the nearby Living Desert, or take a guided jeep tour and see Indian canyons, ancient trails, and desert wildlife and palm groves. The vast desert region of southern California east of Los Angeles has a typical desert climate. This area, which includes Palm Springs, Palm Desert and Rancho Mirage receives only 15-20 days of rainfall per year for a total of 4.77 inches. The days are mostly sunny and warm and nights are cool from fall through late spring. Summers turn hot to very hot, with occasional high clouds, and warm, balmy evenings May through October. The humidity levels are very low, so even when the mercury climbs to 100 degrees, it feels comfortable in the shade. Keep in mind that temperatures are 30-40 degrees lower at the top of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway and in the Alpine community of Idyllwild.
