Bermuda Dunes
is a small community located in Riverside County about 23 miles east of Palm Springs in southern California. As of the 2000 census, the population of Bermuda Dunes was 6,229 residents. The community originated from the country club that first opened here in 1959. A golf course community followed in 1962 and was the site of the Bob Hope Chrysler Golf Classic. Bermuda Dunes is part of Riverside County, which stretches from Orange County on the west coast, east to the Colorado River, which borders the state of Arizona. The area surrounding Bermuda Dunes is desert and most of Joshua Tree National Park is located in Riverside County. Several golf resorts are nearby, including Indian Wells, Palm Springs, La Quinta, Rancho Mirage and Palm Desert. With both desert and mountains, Riverside County offers a wide variety of activities and special events, including the International Date Festival. There are also many museums near Bermuda Dunes, such as the Childrens Discovery Museum of the Desert, the Orange Empire Railway Museum and the California Museum of Photography. Nearby Palm Springs offers world class restaurants, museums, art galleries, theater and upscale shopping.

The vast desert region of southern California east of Los Angeles has a typical desert climate. This area, which includes Palm Springs, Palm Desert and Rancho Mirage receives only 15-20 days of rainfall per year for a total of 4.77 inches. The days are mostly sunny and warm and nights are cool from fall through late spring. Summers turn hot to very hot, with occasional high clouds, and warm, balmy evenings May through October. The humidity levels are very low, so even when the mercury climbs to 100 degrees, it feels comfortable in the shade. Keep in mind that temperatures are 30-40 degrees lower at the top of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway and in the Alpine community of Idyllwild.
