Danville
is a small town located in Contra Costa County just east of the city of Oakland. Known for its small-town atmosphere and high quality of life, Danville has been around since the Gold Rush Days. The town preserves its Old West feel with the upkeep of its historic buildings, interesting museums and old narrow streets. It's conveniently located near the city of San Francisco, and has access to BART, the Bay Area Rapid Transit system, which connects many of the towns and communities of the metropolitan areas of Oakland and San Francisco. However, Danville is a great place to visit all on its own. The community contains eight parks with ball fields, tennis courts, hiking trails, playground equipment and picnic facilities, plus several museums, great shopping and fine restaurants. Danville is known for its Fourth of July Parade, Hot Summer Nights Car Show, and summer Music in the Park concert series held in Oak Hill Park. Just a short drive takes you to the entrance of Mt. Diablo State Park, a 45-minute drive over the Bay Bridge takes you to downtown San Francisco, and the beautiful wine country of Napa Valley is less than an hour away. Danville makes a safe, relaxed, convenient alternative for anyone looking for a base from which to explore the entire San Francisco Bay Area attractions.

Mark Twain once said, "the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." While this might be a slight exaggeration, the climate in the San Francisco Bay Area is mild year round with cool evenings - even in the summertime. Cool breezes from the Pacific Ocean help moderate the summer heat and marine influences keep winters very mild. The San Francisco Bay Area is known for its fog, especially in the summertime. This occurs when warm air masses flow across a cooler ocean and the moisture in the air condenses and forms fog. The rainy season in northern California runs November through March, with no measurable precipitation in the summertime. Spring and fall are generally the sunniest, and warmest, seasons in the Bay area.
