Castro-Valley
is nestled in a quiet valley in Alameda County in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area region of Northern California. One of the advantages of visiting Castro Valley is its peaceful rural atmosphere at the hub of one of California's most exciting cultural, economical and recreational heartlands. The population of Castro Valley is approximately 60,000 residents. During the 1940s and 1950s, it was known for its chicken ranches, but later developed into a "bedroom community" where workers commute to jobs in the surrounding cities. Castro Valley offers a well-developed park system, a 315-acre lake, swimming lagoon and a beautiful 18-hole golf course. The Castro Valley entrance (on Lake Chabot Road) to Anthony Chabot Regional Park provides a quick escape from city to picturesque mountain lake. There are miles and miles of hiking and horseback riding trails in the park, along with fishing, boating and camping. The East Bay Skyline National Trail, which covers 31 miles from Richmond to Castro Valley, runs the length of the park. Chabot is connected to the Cull Canyon Regional Recreation Area by a six-mile section of the Chabot-to-Garin Regional Trail. There are several other parks located in Castro Valley, along with the Castro Valley Community Center on Lake Chabot Road, which offers numerous activities, picnic facilities, play areas, tennis courts, horseshoe courts, basketball court and softball field - and even a snack bar. In addition, Castro Valley makes a great base for visiting many of the San Francisco/Bay Area attractions.

East of Monterey Bay, inland just a few miles, is an area of rolling farmland and giant oaks that is blessed with a mild, temperate climate. Located approximately 40 miles from the coast, the cool ocean air regulates the area's temperatures, keeping it warm, but not hot, in summer and mild in winter. It rarely snows here, except occasionally in the surrounding foothills. Winters, however, are damp with an average rainfall of 14 inches, which occurs during winter and early spring. Low clouds or fog is sometimes present in the summertime, although not as prevalent as right along the coastline, and temperatures are generally just a few degrees warmer than nearby Monterey and Carmel.
