Strawberry
is a small community located on Highway 108 near Pinecrest Lake and the Dodge Ridge ski area. This is a breathtaking area of the state, set in the central Sierra Mountain foothills among tall pines, aspens and cottonwoods, dotted with crystal clear lakes and streams. Every season of the year has something to offer visitors in this region. Fall is colorful with the changing leaves; the summer heat has vanished, but it's before the winter ski crowds arrive. In winter, Dodge Ridge, approximately five miles away, offers downhill or cross country skiing and Leland Snow Park is a great place to take the kids sledding and tubing. Some people prefer to strike out on their own and snowshoe or snowmobile the many miles of country mountain roads surrounding Strawberry. Summer in Strawberry is exceptional and offers swimming and boating at Pinecrest Lake, mountain biking and hiking on numerous mountain trails, horseback riding, fly fishing on the Stanislaus River, golfing, wine tasting, birdwatching, canoeing and rafting. Sightseeing and antiquing in the surrounding gold rush towns of Sonora, Jamestown and Murphys is another enjoyable way to spend an afternoon while visiting Strawberry. The village of Strawberry is just a short drive to Yosemite National Park and approximately a two-hour drive from the San Francisco Bay Area.

Strawberry Weather & Climate

The Sierra Nevada Foothills region, or the "Mother Lode," as it is sometimes called, has four mild seasons. In fall, the leaves change and temperatures begin to drop. Winters receive lots of rain in November through March, and it is cool enough at night for a fire in the fireplace, but rarely does it ever snow in the foothills. Spring is very pleasant with showers sometimes continuing through April and May. Summers are hot, dry and sunny. The foothills region is usually a few degrees cooler than the lower valley regions in summer. Fog, which is often a problem at lower elevations in winter, occurs less frequently here. Many people from the Valley travel "above the fog" in the wintertime for a much-needed sunshine break. Thunderstorms can occur anytime in California, but they are very light and infrequent.
