Pinecrest is a tiny town located within the Stanislaus National Forest of Tuolumne County in northern California. The Sierra Nevada Foothills region, or the "Mother Lode," as it is sometimes called, has four mild seasons. In fall, the leaves change and temperatures begin to drop. Winters receive lots of rain in November through March, and it is cool enough at night for a fire in the fireplace, but rarely does it ever snow in the foothills. Spring is very pleasant with showers sometimes continuing through April and May. Summers are hot, dry and sunny. The foothills region is usually a few degrees cooler than the lower valley regions in summer. Fog, which is often a problem at lower elevations in winter, occurs less frequently here. Many people from the Valley travel "above the fog" in the wintertime for a much-needed sunshine break. Thunderstorms can occur anytime in California, but they are very light and infrequent.
