Oceanside
is a family beach town, with 3.5 miles of white sandy beaches and home to the longest wooden pier on the West Coast! Located between Los Angeles and San Diego, Oceanside is ideal for swimming, sunning, and building sandcastles on the beach, surfing, sailing, and almost any kind of water sports imaginable. Fishing off the pier is very popular, as is deep-sea fishing. Adjacent to Oceanside is a little used road, perfect for bike riding or hiking, that goes through part of Camp Pendleton, and then along an ocean bluff for twenty miles north to San Clemente. More eateries and unique shops can be found in the newly revitalized downtown area and the Ocean Place Entertainment Center. Oceanside is home to California’s largest historic Spanish mission, the Oceanside Surf Museum, a Sea Center and Art Museum. Sunshine almost every day and winters that are mild and free of snow attract millions to the southern California coastline, between Los Angeles and San Diego, every year. The climate is mostly classified as Mediterranean with winters being just a few degrees cooler than summers. There is little to no rain from May through September or October, which is great for outdoors activities, but bad for fire danger. Fog and low clouds usually hug the coastline in the summertime in the late evening and the wee hours of the morning, but burns off by midday. The rainy season generally runs November through March or sometimes April. Thunderstorms are infrequent and light. As you move further inland away from the cooling effect of the ocean breezes, temperatures become warmer with more variation between summer and winter.
