Mission Viejo is a city of approximately 95,000, located in Orange County, Southern California. In October 2006, it was recognized as the “safest city in California” and the “second safest city in the nation in cities with a population of 75,000 to 99,999” according to a report published by Morgan Quitno Press. It ranks 3rd safest city overall in the nation without regard to population. The town’s name is a reference to Rancho Mission Viejo, a large Spanish land grant from which the community was founded. Mission Viejo is a planned residential city in nature and culture with a large number of single-family homes and condominiums. The city is home to Saddleback College, and a “showcase” mall called The Shops at Mission Viejo and Kaleidoscope Courtyards, which is an open courtyard, three-story shopping/entertainment complex. Outdoor recreational activities abound in Mission Viejo’s numerous parks (about 2 parks per square mile,) and a public lake (the Mission Viejo Reservoir) also offers a variety of water sports. Mission Viejo is host to an annual Street Painting Festival of the Arts in May and a 4th of July Street Faire and Fireworks.

The Southern Pacific coastline, between Los Angeles and San Diego, enjoys some of the most beautiful weather in the state year round. This region boasts over 300 days of sunshine per year, balmy days and cool evenings %u2013 perfect for beachcombing, tennis, golf and other outdoor activities. The rainy season runs November through early April, with dry conditions and low humidity the rest of the year. It%u2019s not unusual to go all summer with no precipitation at all. Low clouds and fog are usually present right along the coastline on warmer summer days, but clears up by early afternoon. The summer heat is moderated by cool ocean breezes, but keep in mind that as you travel inland away from the cooling effect of the ocean, the temperatures rise (although not to uncomfortable levels.) Thunderstorms in this area are infrequent and light.
