Capistrano Beach
, or “Capo Beach,” as it’s called by locals, is located in Orange County, just south of Los Angeles, between Laguna Beach and San Clemente. This beach, which was opened to the public in 1980, has a small town atmosphere, and has perfect sand for playing volleyball and other beach activities. During the summer months a refreshment stand is open, which has fishing gear and beach supplies, as well as food and beverages. Surfboards, roller blades and bicycles are all available for rent at Capistrano Beach. There are also public restrooms located on the beach, outside showers, seven volleyball courts and a basketball court. It is open every day of the year between the hours of 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM, and several good restaurants are located nearby. Capistrano Beach is just 2 miles from Dana Point, 7 miles to the San Juan Capistrano Mission and 35 miles to Disneyland. Golf is available approximately 5 miles from Capistrano Beach. Basically, Capistrano Beach is far enough away from the major tourist spots such as Disneyland and Universal Studios to provide lots of privacy, quiet and relaxation. Yet, for convenience sake, it’s an easy drive to all of the well known southern California attractions. Nearby Dana Point is considered one of the most romantic towns in southern California, sitting high above the ocean amid the coastal bluffs and rolling hills. You will find tons of shopping and restaurants at Dana Point, a full service marina and complete harbor facilities, and the annual “Festival of Whales” in March.

The Southern Pacific coastline, between Los Angeles and San Diego, enjoys some of the most beautiful weather in the state year round. This region boasts over 300 days of sunshine per year, balmy days and cool evenings - perfect for beachcombing, tennis, golf and other outdoor activities. The rainy season runs November through early April, with dry conditions and low humidity the rest of the year. It's not unusual to go all summer with no precipitation at all. Low clouds and fog are usually present right along the coastline on warmer summer days, but clears up by early afternoon. The summer heat is moderated by cool ocean breezes, but keep in mind that as you travel inland away from the cooling effect of the ocean, the temperatures rise (although not to uncomfortable levels.) Thunderstorms in this area are infrequent and light.
