Hawkins-Bar
is located along Highway 299, approximately 48 miles east of Arcata and 100 miles west of Redding. Situated within the beautiful Six Rivers National Forest in the Shasta/Cascade region of northern California, this small town offers visitors unparalleled access to outdoor recreational fun. Just a few of the activities available in or near Hawkins Bar includes hiking, rock climbing, bicycling, golf, superb fishing for salmon and steelhead, wildlife viewing, swimming, white water rafting and camping. Hawkins Bar has convenient shopping, where nearly everything is within walking distance of each other. The town of Arcata, which is just a short drive away, is located right along the coast and has been named "One of the Most Enlightened Towns in the U.S." It has become a haven for artisans and craftspeople and has lots of colorful shops and unique restaurants. It is also home to the Arcata Community Forest, ten miles of hiking trails that cross a 575-acre Redwood forest. Another great way to spend the day while visiting Hawkins Bar is exploring the backroads, stopping at antique stores and visiting the other small towns of the area such as Hyampom, Fortuna, Willow Creek and the Victorian village of Ferndale.

Climate in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest region varies greatly with elevation. Located in North-Central California, the National Forest covers over two million acres. Higher elevations tend to have much cooler temperatures and higher precipitation. Summer weather is usually hot and dry in the lower elevations, with temperatures ranging from 85 degrees - 100 degrees and lows from 60- 70 degrees. Fall days are usually mild and warm, with cool nights. Winter is when most of the precipitation falls, averaging over 55 inches per year, much of it in the form of snow in the high elevations. Highs range from 40 - 60 degrees and lows from 30 - 40 degrees in the lower elevations in winter. Spring weather is variable with many pleasant days and cool nights.
