Bridgeport
is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains on the eastern side of Yosemite National Park; Bridgeport is the county seat for Mono County. This is pristine, alpine "High Country," with mountains peaks like Matter Horn at 12,264 feet and The Incredible Hulk at over 11,760 feet surrounding the town. Aside from the incredible scenery, the main attraction in Bridgeport is the western flair of the town. Local architecture still bears the signature of the early pioneers who first settled here. Vast open spaces in the countryside around Bridgeport brings to mind the "old days" of wagon trains, gold miners and cattle round-ups. There are numerous opportunities for outdoor recreation such as trout fishing, boating, biking, hiking, rock climbing, camping, snowshoeing and skiing. Pristine lakes, rivers, streams and hot springs surround Bridgeport. Other attractions include the nearby town of Bodie, which is one of the nation's most well preserved ghost towns. Main Street in Bridgeport is lined with shops and casual to fine dining establishments. Annual events in town include several fishing derbies, a special Fourth of July parade and fireworks, IPRA Rodeo and Native American Social Gatherings.

Central California located on the western slopes and foothills of the central Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, generally enjoys a pleasant year round climate with warm, dry summers and mild winters. This region has a slogan that says it is "Below the Snow and Above the Fog." However, the 10,000 foot peaks in the area's eastern region attest to a wide diversity of terrain and climate. Average rainfall is between 40-50 inches, with October through April generally being the rainy months. Snow is rare in the lower elevations, but as you move higher into Yosemite and the Mammoth Lakes region, all of that changes. Winters in the mountains are snowy and cold, although sunny and chilly days are not uncommon. Visitors must be aware that conditions can change rapidly in the mountains in the wintertime.
