Venice Beach
has been both a resort and a residential community, but now has become known as “the playground of the Pacific.” Venice Beach is very conveniently located off Highway 1 between Santa Monica and Marina Del Rey. For outdoors recreation, you can swim, surf, play volleyball, build sand sculptures or enjoy a day of sunbathing on the beach. There is also plenty of room to jog, bike, roller blade, skate or stroll the oceanfront path, taking in the sights and sounds of what has become the most visited beachfront city on the West Coast! Across the bay from Venice Beach in Marina Del Rey, sailing and kayaking are available, as are chartered boats for deep-sea fishing. Venice Beach is lively and full of color, action and movement! Some have described it as a year round carnival with free admission! This unique place is known for its artists and “funky” atmosphere. Aside from the beach and boardwalk, Venice Beach has small trendy shops and restaurants, most of them owner operated. There are always ongoing gallery openings, art shows, little theater and nightlife featuring local talent. Venice Beach is known for its street performers, with everything from artists, dancers, comedians, weightlifters, jugglers, skaters and musicians. Or, how about a musician on roller-skates? It’s possible, and you’re likely to see it all at Venice Beach!

Southern California along the Pacific Coast enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate with over 300 days of sunshine per year. As with most of the state of California, summers are dry due to a semi-permanent high pressure system that sits in the Pacific Ocean and holds storm tracks well to the north. Warm air moving over the cool ocean in summer creates fog that moves in during the evening and early morning hours but almost always dissipates by midday. The rainy season is November through early April, but this area receives only approximately 12 inches of precipitation per year. Some flash flooding can occur when large amounts of rain occur in winter over a period of one or two days, and in summertime, very dry conditions in the higher elevations means forest fires are always a threat.
