Tiburon is a unique, sleepy little village at the end of Tiburon Peninsula that juts out into San Francisco Bay. You can reach it in 20 minutes by car over the Golden Gate Bridge north on Highway 101, or 25 minutes by ferry from San Francisco. This cozy harbor community began as a lagoon with arks and houseboats lining the shore. Today, "Ark Row," is one of the most popular dining and shopping areas in the downtown. Main Street is the town's other most historic, picturesque street with beautifully restored buildings that date back to the late 1800s. Tiburon has galleries that feature fine arts and crafts, one-of-a-kind jewelry and gift items made by local artisans. There are fifteen restaurants in town, some with captivating views across the Bay to San Francisco, that offer everything from nachos to fine dining. Other interesting sites include Old St. Hilary's, a restored Carpenter Gothic church overlooking the Bay, the Tiburon Uplands Nature Preserve and the Richardson Bay Audubon Center and Sanctuary. Angel Island is a short ferry ride from Tiburon, and many of the town's markets will put together a lunch to take along for a picnic on the beach. If you're up for an adventure, the narrow and winding Highway 1 north of Tiburon, with its' gorgeous views of the ocean, is well worth the time.

Mark Twain once said, "the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." While this might be a slight exaggeration, the climate in the San Francisco Bay Area is mild year round with cool evenings - even in the summertime. Cool breezes from the Pacific Ocean help moderate the summer heat and marine influences keep winters very mild. The San Francisco Bay Area is known for its fog, especially in the summertime. This occurs when warm air masses flow across a cooler ocean and the moisture in the air condenses and forms fog. The rainy season in northern California runs November through March, with no measurable precipitation in the summertime. Spring and fall are generally the sunniest, and warmest, seasons in the Bay area.
