Mill-Valley
is a small town located in Marin County just north of San Francisco between San Rafael and Sausalito. Known for its' beautiful location at the foot of Mount Tamalpais, Mill Valley is both sophisticated and charming. Many of its' 29,000 residents are artists and writers who are inspired by their beautiful natural surroundings. Just north of town is Mount Tamalpais State Park, which contains 6,300 acres of redwood groves, oak woodlands and a spectacular view from its' 2,571-foot peak. On a clear day, visitors can see the Marin County hills, the city of San Francisco and the Bay, the Farallon Islands 25 miles out to sea, and on some occasions, even the snow-covered mountains of the Sierra Nevada. There are fifty miles of hiking trails in the park that connect to a larger, 200-mile-long trail system. The park also has picnic areas and a visitor center located at the East Peak Summit. Other points of interest near Mill Valley include Muir Woods, the Marin Headlands, Point Bonita Lighthouse, Stinson Beach, Angel Island, the Golden Gate Bridge and downtown San Francisco. The weather in Mill Valley is mild year round, summer and spring are warm, and fall and winter are cool. Layered clothing, especially if you hiking, is recommended.

The Northern Coast of California, including the areas of Stinson Beach, Mill Valley and Point Reyes Station, is a year-round destination, and its climate is as varied as the geography. Summers are mostly dry all over, with frequent low clouds and morning fog along the coast. Winters along the coast are generally mild. Rain occurs most frequently and heavily October-April, with January being the wettest month. The San Francisco Bay Area can be cool and damp in the summer (due to the fog,) which surprises many visitors. However, just a few miles inland the weather is very different with warmer temperatures and more sunshine. Cool breezes from the Pacific Ocean help keep summer from becoming too hot and winters from being too cold.
