Tahoma
is one of the fastest growing communities on Lake Tahoe, located in Placer County on the western shores of the lake. Tahoma is just three miles to one of Lake Tahoe's most picturesque beaches at Meeks Bay, and offers a wide assortment of outdoor activities, like swimming, boating, water skiing, parasailing, hiking, mountain biking, horse pack trips and camping. The nearby Truckee River offers rafting trips, and there are boat tours that take you entirely around Lake Tahoe. Just a short drive away are several internationally known ski resorts, with downhill and cross-country skiing, sledding, snowboarding, snowmobiling and more fun. The Sugar Pine Point State Park has a sandy beach and tennis courts and a short drive south takes you to gorgeous Emerald Bay. South Lake Tahoe is approximately a 30-minute drive from Tahoma and offers world class gambling, live shows and entertainment and fine dining opportunities. The community of Tahoma is fast becoming one of the most desired vacation spots on Lake Tahoe, with its awesome views and peaceful atmosphere. The quaint town area has a post office, restaurants, coffee bar and a few shops. More shopping is available just north in Tahoe City or in South Lake Tahoe.

A distinct four-season, alpine climate describes Lake Tahoe's weather. Located in the Northern Sierra Nevada Mountains at the 7,000-foot level, summers are generally warm and dry with cool evenings and winters are quite cold and snowy. Moderate amounts of snow are reported each year in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, with amounts and intensities increasing at elevations around 6,000 to 8,000 feet. Above 4,000 feet snow remains on the ground for long periods of time each winter and up to 40 feet of snow can be reported in the Sierras. Highways are sometimes closed for periods of two to three days due to blowing and drifting snow. Summers are quite pleasant and mild with occasional rain or thunderstorms. Sometimes, after a prolonged hot spell, thunderstorms at the higher elevations may become severe.
