Redding
is a beautiful city in northern California along Interstate 5 in the center of one of California's most pristine recreational areas. The towering snow-capped mountains surround this city that lies along the picturesque Sacramento River, and it makes a wonderful base for your northern California vacation. Less than an hour away is world class skiing, river activities, many lakes, waterfalls and historic gold rush towns. Shasta Park features state-of-the-art ski and snow grooming equipment, runs for beginners to experts and nighttime skiing, all amid some of the most awe-inspiring scenery found in the state. In summer, the park is popular with mountain bikers, and also features a climbing tower, free volcanic exhibit, and thrilling chair lift rides to a mountaintop vista point where you'll find sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. Shasta Dam and Shasta Lake are just twelve miles south of town and attract more visitors Redding than any other attraction. Shasta Lake is an outdoor lovers dream with great fishing, swimming, water-skiing, boating, camping and picnicking, surrounded by tall pines and majestic mountains. Other places to visit near Redding include the Shasta Caverns, Castle Crags State Park, Shasta State Historic Park, Lassen National Park and Whiskeytown Lake.

North Central California along Interstate 5 near the town of Redding, has sunny, hot summers and mild to cool winters. Located near the Mount Shasta/Shasta Trinity National Forest, this region's climate varies greatly according to elevation. Summers are usually hot and very dry with temperatures at the lower elevations sometimes climbing above the 100-degree mark. Higher elevations tend to have much cooler temperatures and higher precipitation in summer. Fall days are mild with cool nights. Winter is the rainy season, with an average of 55 inches of rain per year in the lower elevations and snow in the higher elevations. Spring weather can be unstable with both rain and mild, sunny days.
