Garberville is located in the forested mountain region of extreme northern California. A five-hour drive north of San Francisco, Garberville makes a good base from which to explore the magnificent California Redwood Empire. A short drive north from Garberville takes you to the Avenue of the Giants, which is home to some of the oldest and tallest trees, and the largest grove of virgin redwoods still standing in the world! Just south of Garberville you enter Richardson Grove State Park and Standish Hickey State Park. Both of these parks have trails that lead you through the ancient world of the giant redwoods. Another spectacular attraction near Garberville is The Lost Coast. This is a vast, unspoiled area with both primitive camping and developed campgrounds, a 52-mile National Recreation Trail, and a fascinating, rare black sand beach that stretches north for 25 miles! Benbow Lake near Garberville also offers more family recreational opportunities such as swimming, boating and fishing. Garberville has a lot to offer visitors, such as diverse lodging, great restaurants and gift shops, a summer Shakespeare Festival, and several arts and crafts fairs. This is just a sampling of what this enchanting area has to offer you for your next northern California vacation!

Garberville Weather & Climate

Northwest California has temperatures along the coast that vary only 10 degrees from summer to winter, although a greater range is found over inland areas. During most years, rainfall averages more than 40 inches in the driest areas, and exceeds 100 inches in the zones of heavy precipitation. Most of this comes in the wintertime from storm fronts that move in from the ocean. Due to the moisture and moderate temperature, the average relative humidity is high. Largely as a result of the proximity of the cool Pacific Ocean, the adjoining coastal area has some of the coolest, most stable temperatures to be found in the state. With increasing distance from the ocean, the marine influence is less pronounced and inland areas experience wider variations of temperature and lower humidities. There are thunderstorms in the mountains during the summer, but they are infrequent.
