Corona-del-Mar is a neighborhood of Newport Beach, California. The community consists of all the land on the seaward face of the San Joaquin Hills south of Avocado Street and also includes the development of Irvine Terrace, just north of Avocado Street. The name Corona del Mar means "Crown of the Sea" in Spanish. Settled in the early 20th century, Corona del Mar was a tiny village that consisted mostly of single family homes concentrated along the Pacific Coast Highway. Today, newer developments in Corona del Mar include classic California ranch style homes with spectacular ocean views. Corona del Mar has no municipal government and receives all its services from the city of Newport Beach. Visitors are drawn to the area for its 42 miles of breathtaking coastline, upscale lifestyle and unlimited entertainment opportunities. "Big Corona," in Corona del Mar, is a family beach with waves that are mild enough for children, while "Little Corona" is located a few blocks south and is a popular tide pool spot. Activities in the area include snorkeling and scuba diving, body surfing, beach volleyball, tennis, golf, fishing and sailing. Newport Beach has been named one of the top 10 beaches in the U.S. and has one of the largest small boat harbors in the world with daily ferry trips to Catalina Island. Clustered along the picturesque shore are art galleries, restaurants, bed and breakfasts, hotels, and unique shops. Sunsets are also spectacular from the beaches of Corona del Mar and a perfect way to end the day.

Corona del Mar Weather & Climate

The beaches and cities along southern California's Pacific Coast enjoy a Mediterranean-type climate of sunny, warm summers and mild wet winters. The rainy season runs from November through March and usually produces no more than 12 inches of rainfall per year. Due to a stable marine layer, any type of precipitation is rare between May and October. The average annual humidity is 64.7 and the average year round temperature is 62 degrees. In summer, temperatures rarely exceed 85 degrees. In the morning and evening there are often strong ocean breezes. In summer, low clouds and fog along the coast give way to sunshine by early afternoon. Frost occurs in the area less than once every ten years.
