Huntington Beach is consistently rated one of southern California’s top beaches. The city of Huntington Beach is located right along the Pacific Ocean, just 35 miles south of Los Angeles. Known around the world as “Surf City,” Huntington Beach has 8.5 miles of gorgeous white sand beach and the longest municipal recreational pier in California. With an ideal Mediterranean type climate, visitors flock to Huntington Beach for sunning, swimming, surfing, fishing, and to watch professional sporting events such as volleyball and skateboarding. You can even build a bonfire on the beach, and fire rings are first come, first serve. Main Street in Huntington Beach is a five-block stretch of outdoor cafes, fine restaurants, unique shops and boutiques. Visitors wander along the beach, and in town, wearing their swim suits and even the finest restaurants do not require ties. Residents are friendly and Huntington Beach has been named one of the ten safest cities in the state. Free concerts and a weekly arts and crafts and farmer’s market is held on the pier. The city is also centrally located near other major southern California attractions such as Disneyland, Universal Studios, Knotts Berry Farm and The California Adventure. The beaches and cities along southern California's Pacific Coast enjoy a Mediterranean-type climate of sunny, warm summers and mild wet winters. The rainy season runs from November through March and usually produces no more than 12 inches of rainfall per year. Due to a stable marine layer, any type of precipitation is rare between May and October. The average annual humidity is 64.7 and the average year round temperature is 62 degrees. In summer, temperatures rarely exceed 85 degrees. In the morning and evening there are often strong ocean breezes. In summer, low clouds and fog along the coast give way to sunshine by early afternoon. Frost occurs in the area less than once every ten years.
