Torrance is located near Long Beach in the area of Los Angeles known as the “south Bay.” This is a convenient location, only twenty minutes from Los Angeles International Airport and near all the beautiful beaches of Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Visitors to the city of Torrance can enjoy over 350 acres of open space and parkland, including Madrona Marsh, which is a fresh water habitat, as well as Torrance Beach. This beach features lifeguards, a bathhouse, a children’s playground, and swimming, volleyball and surfing opportunities. There are also 24 city parks that offer golf, tennis, swimming and hiking for visitors. And the climate in Torrance is wonderful, with warm year round temperatures, fresh ocean breezes and low humidity, making it possible to enjoy outdoors activities any time of the year. Other attractions in Torrance include the Torrance Cultural Arts Center, the Joslyn Fine Arts Center and Old Downtown Torrance. The city hosts the annual Daily Breeze International Surf Festival and Torrance Beach Cities Triathlon. Ongoing events in Torrance include a Certified Farmer’s Market every Tuesday and Saturday, and a train ride for children on the first Sunday of every month.

Southern California along the Pacific Coast enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate with over 300 days of sunshine per year. As with most of the state of California, summers are dry due to a semi-permanent high pressure system that sits in the Pacific Ocean and holds storm tracks well to the north. Warm air moving over the cool ocean in summer creates fog that moves in during the evening and early morning hours but almost always dissipates by midday. The rainy season is November through early April, but this area receives only approximately 12 inches of precipitation per year. Some flash flooding can occur when large amounts of rain occur in winter over a period of one or two days, and in summertime, very dry conditions in the higher elevations means forest fires are always a threat.
