Redwood-Valley
is a small community located off U.S. Highway 101 in Mendocino County, near the wild and rugged northern California coastline. Rolling hills and oak groves and magnificent redwood forests surround Redwood Valley, which is near the headwaters of the picturesque Russian River. It's also just a short drive to Lake Mendocino, which was created in 1958 by the construction of the Coyote Dam on the East Fork of the Russian River. This picturesque lake offers swimming, boating, water skiing, hiking, camping and picnicking. The nearby town of Willits is the eastern terminus of the famous Skunk Train and takes you on a thrilling ride over bridges and trestles, through a mountain tunnel and giant Redwoods. Willits also hosts an Annual Frontier Days on the 4th of July. Also, while visiting Redwood Valley, a day trip to the seaside village of Mendocino is a must see. This New England-style town sits on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and is filled with art galleries, little cafes and restaurants and dozens of unique and interesting shops. You can hike to the headlands or picnic beside the ocean as you take in the gorgeous views. Redwood Valley is perfect for those looking for a more natural, secluded side of California.

The rugged northern Pacific Coast, north of the San Francisco Bay Area, experiences a mild climate year round. There is very little variation in temperature from winter, spring, summer and fall. Summers are dry, but typically cool and foggy right along the coast. Further inland, near the Anderson Valley, temperatures will be warmer with more sunny days. Be advised that it can be in the 60s in the Mendocino coast area, and just 30 miles inland the temperature can be in the 90s. Cool ocean breezes and a thick marine layer helps moderate coastal temperatures. If visiting during wintertime, there is a good chance it will rain during your stay. November through March are the wettest months. Fall is generally the sunniest time along the northern Pacific Coast.
