Lake-Tulloch is located in Calaveras County, about 15 miles west of the town of Jamestown and 30 minutes east of the city of Stockton. It is situated in the foothills of the High Sierra Mountains of Central California. Lake Tulloch, or Tulloch Reservoir, has 55 miles of shoreline and is great for swimming, boating and fishing, sailing, pontoon boating and kayaking. There is a campground located at the lake, and hiking, biking, golf and horseback riding are also available in the area. Lake Tulloch is about 1,000 feet above sea level, which makes it a popular destination because it's above the valley fog but below the snow. However, alpine and cross country skiing are available at Dodge Ridge and Bear Valley, which is just an hour away from Lake Tulloch. There are lots of great sightseeing opportunities in the region's rich historic Gold Rush towns, and wineries, shopping and restaurants are all within easy reach of the lake. Nearby historic Jamestown is geared towards tourists and has a Main Street lined with quaint shops, art galleries, antique stores, souvenirs and the town also offers steam train rides and panning for gold. Lake Tulloch is only about a two-hour drive from both San Francisco and Sacramento.

Lake Tulloch Weather & Climate

Central California's Sierra Nevada foothills region has four mild seasons. There is not precipitation in the region; January is the wettest month and the driest month is July. Thunderstorms are possible anytime of the year in the foothills, but are rare and brief. Summer days are long and dry, with highs generally in the 90s and lows in the 60s. Wintertime brings highs in the 50's with temperatures at Tulloch Reservoir dipping down into the 30's during winter nights. Cool enough for a fire in the fireplace, but rarely cold enough for snow. The hills are beautiful in the fall with the changing colors of the leaves, and spring is very pleasant with showers sometimes continuing throughout April. Fog, which is a problem at the lower elevations in the winter, occurs much less frequently here.
