Angwin
is a small village located in Napa County, 8 miles east of St. Helena and near the town of Caslistoga. This forested community lies on the side of Howell Mountain, home to the Pacific Union College; Napa County's only four-year college. For outdoor recreational opportunities, Angwin is near the La Posadas State Park and Lake Berryessa, which is one of the largest bodies of fresh water in the state of California and offers year-round fun. Anglers especially enjoy fishing Lake Berryessa for both cold and warm water species, such as rainbow trout, bass, catfish and bluegill. There are seven resorts around the lake that offer camping, day use boating facilities and picnic areas. There are so many attractions in the Angwin area; your only problem will be deciding where to start. You could spend days just exploring the beautiful vineyards, historic towns and over 200 wineries near Angwin. Then there is Old Faithful Geyser, the Petrified Forest, Napa Valley Railroad and the Bale Grist Mill State Historic Park. The wine country is also known for its many hot springs and health resorts that offer mud baths and other pampering treats. Other activities include golf, hot air balloon rides and paragliding. The town of Angwin is a quiet retreat in the midst of one of the most picturesque parts of the state - perfect for a romantic weekend for two or a family vacation destination.

The northern end of the Napa Valley wine country is just an hour and a half north of San Francisco. Autumn is considered by many to be the best time to visit the wine country. This is when vines are in full color and the harvest is taking place, and the weather is delightful. Warm, sunny dry afternoons and cool evenings are the norm for autumn. The rainy season runs November through March, with January and February having the most rain. Temperatures are cool in winter at night, but rarely go below the freezing mark. The Napa Valley region is hotter than the San Francisco area in the summertime, although not unbearable because there is little or no humidity. In spring when temperatures are mild, and new vines are budding is a popular time for bicycling through the area.
